AFTER 19 YEARS OF PUTTING HIS HEART AND SOUL INTO BUILDING INNOVATIVE INTO WHAT IT IS TODAY, BOB TITUS HAS OFFICIALLY CHANGED ROLES, FROM CEO TO CHAIRMAN.
But he’s never been one for titles, anyway. While that hasn’t changed, a lot has. It’s a new season for Bob: one where he can reflect on the impact he’s had and the work he’s accomplished, as well as look forward to what’s yet to come.
As Chairman, Bob is focused on deepening the relationships he’s built over the years -- with vendors, industry partners, employees -- as well as creating new ones that will continue to propel Innovative forward.
A lifelong Rochesterian, Bob came to Innovative in 1997 after getting his degree from Syracuse University and spending nearly a decade at a manufacturing firm. The experience, though disheartening, was life-changing. Nearly 10 years of witnessing the job-shop mentality -- where people are equipment and the bottom line is king -- hugely impacted his behavior, teaching him what to avoid. That learning experience is what’s driven his choices in how he interacts with and treats people ever since he stepped into Innovative.
Learning has always played a central role in Bob’s life. Well-primed after growing up with a father who ran nine family businesses, he knew small business was for him, but he didn’t begin at Innovative with the intention of becoming CEO or owner. Yet just a few years in, he quickly seized the opportunity to both lead and grow the company, learning a lot along the way as it’s expanded significantly.
But he won’t take credit for the growth alone. His humility is what’s made Innovative a people company first, one where professional development is priority, open doors are the norm, and supporting each other is second nature.
It’s the people that have made this journey worth every minute -- and it’s the people, the conversations, and the debates he’ll continue to have -- that will keep him happy, day-in and day-out.
Outside of the office, you can find Bob not just in and around Rochester, but all over the world. He and his wife travel frequently, with countless countries under their belts to date. His favorite trips? The cultural experiences where he can grow, learn, and see life from a new perspective.
It has no doubt influenced the importance of culture at Innovative. And now, after two decades of consistent learning and skillfully changing hats -- from accountant to marketing and project manager to CEO -- Bob’s ready to take on a new role at Innovative.
“I’m incredibly happy that this is exactly what I’ve wished for and worked towards, but sad to be in transition. I’m confident in Justin, though -- and know that he and I both have the same heart in this place.”
